To understand the history of Rum, it is essential to know its origins, which go back to the fruit from which “Sugar Cane” originates, its process, its care, its flavor.
Embark on a journey through history at the El Mondero Rum winery, where the legacy of rum is intertwined with centuries of tradition in the Salobreña and Motril plains. Since the 16th century, the cultivation of sugar cane spread throughout this region, becoming the second most important commodity after precious metals. The plains of Salobreña and Motril witnessed the prosperity and importance of this sweet fruit until 2006, when the last sugar factory in the region closed, marking the end of almost twelve centuries of sugar plantations and industry.
It is in this historical context that Francisco Izquierdo, passionate about the history and culture of his town, founded the company “Bodegas El Mondero” in 2006. At our facilities, we invite you to discover how the art of distillation merges with the rich sugar cane heritage of this region, offering you a unique experience that celebrates the history and flavor of rum. Come and immerse yourself in the magic of Ron El Mondero, where the past and the present come together in every sip.
